Tsavo West national park is a spectacular rugged wilderness located in the coast province of Kenya. It is made up of grasslands, scrublands, acacia woodlands, rocky ridges and swamps. Game drives: Tsavo West national park is not as much visited as Tsavo east national park for game drives. However, it still rewards with magnificent game viewing during game drives. Animals seen during the drives include elephants, hippos, lion and buffaloes among others.
Bird watching: birding in Tsavo West national park is at its best between October and January when migrants are present. Ngulia Hills are one of the best places to go for bird watching. Expect to see a variety of birds including the martial eagle, chestnut-headed sparrow-lark, Eastern black-headed Oriole, Verreaux’s eagle owl, pied kingfisher, vulturine guinea fowl, golden palm weaver, black faced sand grouse, white bellied bustard, golden pipit and red-backed shrike among others.
Camping: there are many camping sites in Tsavo west national park and you can lodge at one of them if you want an adventurous stay. Staying in a camp while on safari gives a thrilling feeling of being in the wilderness.
Nature walks: the park has a number of trails for nature walks. Tourists are accompanied by a game ranger who takes you exploring deeper corners of the savannah plains, woodland and riverine zones of the park. They involve visiting attractions like the Mzima springs among others. Nature walks offer a more insightful experience in the park.
