Hell’s Gate National Park

Hell’s Gate National Park is a beautiful safari destination covering about 68 square kilometers in south of Lake Naivasha. It was established in 1984 and got its name from a narrow break in the cliffs which was once a tributary of a prehistoric lake that served the early inhabitants in the rift valley. Regardless of the small size of the park, it boasts a variety of wildlife and a lovely scenery.

There is a variety of wildlife in Hell’s Gate. It is home to gazelles, elands, zebras, klipspringer antelopes, hartebeests, buffalos, servals, reedbuck and predators such as lions, cheetahs, hyenas and leopards.
The park records more than 103 species of birds including augur buzzard, secretary bird, swifts, vultures, Verreaux’s eagles and weaver birds.


Things to do in Hell’s Gate national park
Game drives: game driving around the park in the morning and evening offers a chance to see many of the large mammals. Commonly seen animals during game drives include zebras, buffaloes, elands, servals, klipspringer and gazelles. Predators like lions and leopards can also be sighted.


Bird watching: when you go for bird watching in Hell’s Gate national park, expect to come across a variety of interesting birds including weaver birds, swifts, eagles and vultures among others.
Hot bath in Ol Karia: the park is home to Ol Karia which is popular for its geothermal spa where tourist enjoy recreational and therapeutic swimming. The water point has blue lagoons whose waters produce a natural heat with temperatures ranging from 30o to 40o


Hiking: visitors who are interested in mountain hiking can visit Mt. Longonot which is located about 28km from Naivasha. The hike offers lovely views of the surrounding.
