Malindi

Malindi Kenya’s second largest coastal city located 120km northeast of Mombasa on Malindi Bay widening into the Indian Ocean at the mouth of River Galana with a population of 202,253 people according to the 2009 census recording it as the largest urban center in the Kilifi County. It was a traditional port city conquered by Sultan Majid of Zanzibar in 1861 and made it a slave trade center until 1890 when the British Colonial Government took over its administration and it marked the end of the slave trade while Agriculture found its way.

Malindi Marine National Park – Malindi Marine park is a reserve in the southern part of Malindi town rich in fringing reefs, sea grass, high fish diversity, coral, mangroves, mudflats, turtles, and shorebirds. It also favors a wide range of sports like glass bottom boat rides, camping, swimming with zebra fish, windsurfing, and beach walks in the stunning coral garden among others.


VASCO DA GAMA PILLAR
– Tourism is one of the main industries in Malindi and places like the Vasco Da Gama pillar make it possible. It was created or set up in 1498 by Vasco Da Gama who stopped in Malindi to meet the Malindi authorities and on his way back home, he set up making it one of the oldest remaining monuments in Africa.

Arabuko Sokoke forest– This is one of the best bird-watching spots covering 420 square kilometers and bird lovers can never miss it because it has a number of bird species and a variety of bird species.


Watamu Marine National Park and Reserve– This is Kenya’s most popular and oldest marine park created in 1968 90 miles north of Mombasa. The park is well known for the best underground water sports like snorkeling and diving water activities and its soft and hard coral reefs which provide passable nutrients for an estimated 500 fish species together with the manta rays, octopus, whale sharks, and dangerous sea turtles like the olive Ridley turtles and the green hawksbill.
